John and Marcia Tapp Residence

The spectacular Mission Mountains in Montana's Swan Valley provides a dramatic setting for the John and Marcia Tapp log home. The couple helps preserve the native wildlife by cultivating the wild grasses for the animals to graze on. A metal roof is an essential element of the home due to heavy snow loads that can occur in this northern climate. Lots of glass to enjoy nature's beauty is another feature of this beautiful log home. A true "no settling" home facilitates many creative design ideas. Field stone covers and protects the entire lower level of the home. On the main level, the deck to the right leads from the dining room and the one to the left opens from the den and master bedroom. The owners specifically did not place a deck off the great room because they did not want their view obstructed by the railings.

This home's front, covered porch features a hand-hewn log truss, rock post bases and natural wood doors. The covered breezeway constructed of lodge pole pine is the couple's favorite spot for outdoor entertaining. Sheltered outdoor activity areas were specifically designed into this home, and custom log furniture by Jim Thurston completes the total package. Buck Creek supplies the background music while mother nature adds the evergreen screen and view of the Mission Mountains. We specialize in logs with lots of character, and our accent logs and trusses are truly works of art.

A large rock fireplace, metal truss gussets, and the owners' fine personal touches make this home a truly remarkable home to live and relax in. Living in a custom log home separates you from other home owners in that you are using nature's finest materials with their natural and unique features in the most efficient building systems available. We have the utmost respect for the forests, and we strongly feel we have an obligation to minimize waste and maximize utility.

With the use of vertical logs to support the roof system and securely construct the walls, we can provide a total "no settling" log home at or near conventional frame home prices. By eliminating the settling, your long term maintenance will be greatly reduced so you have more time to enjoy all indoor and outdoor activities.

Clean, attractive wall joints that are tightly joined to the vertical logs ensure a very energy efficient and comfortable home for many years.
